Apulia, olive oil and wine land
Ulivi in terra di Brindisi [video]
The old land that surrounds Francavilla Fontana stretches to a rich and sunny plain half between Taranto and Brindisi. Its light and tastes bring back our mind to ancient people who lived for thousand years in the Mediterranean basin.
In this region full of millenary olives, wich are really enchanting natural sculptures, is born the town of Francavilla Fontana; and it is for this reason that Prince Filippo D’Angiò, in the first half of XIV century, decided to adopt "Olive Tree" as armoniak bearings of the town. Olive story mingled with other wonderful events, as for example "the Miracle of Madonna della Fontana" the patron saint of the town, that caused the becoming green again of all olive trees. This miracle took place a year of XV century when “after a particularly cold season and after a very intense cold month, snow, which had parched and ruined all olives leaving only the bare trunk, began to thaw and so all the branches and leaves became green again as if there had never been either frost, or snow".
In this large geographic area called “Terra dei Principi Imperiali", Francavilla Fontana distinguishes itself by ancient prehistoric evidence as "le specchie", rich in age—old farms and portrayed by beautiful drywall, its imposing churches among them there is the highest dome of all "Salento", by its stately castle, by its building of XVII century and by its gates that are record of ancient walls.
We can admire landscapes full of sunlight, vineyards, almonds in bloom and above all expanses of olives placed in regular rows of Memmola Firms which are thriving in their silvery tints.
